Candy Mountain Preserve

“I grew up watching movies and television, all these cowboy and Indian shows. . .”
…with white people with a Brown face on or Hispanic people. When I’d tell people I want to be an actor, growing up with that kind of imagery makes it seem like it’s impossible. They say it’s a crazy dream. I guess that’s the reason why I want it the most, because I don’t know if we get a second life, but in this life I’m going to reach for that. And although I do like playing Native Americans, I like playing characters that are not based on Native Americans, seeing how far I can push myself. Native Americans don’t need to be in a bubble.”
~ Robert Mesa, from the book Project 562 by Matika Wilbur
